At some risk of "stepping on toes" here, permit me to provide my
"take" on the inferred "problem."

It is this, our society, whether western or eastern, democratic,
socialistic, or authoritarian, does not usually provide a means for
anyone to pursue just any interest and to not need to "make a living."
In most circumstances, one needs to "make a living" first and then may
be able to pursue interests that don't necessarily provide economic
returns. This, I believe, is "the problem" Ardeshir cites. I'm
certain he'll correct me if I am mistaken.

I don't see this as a problem. I see this as the nature of life. It
is the individual's task in life to find the means and provide for
his/her existence.
