Re: DSM: Diploma

I read so many e-mails that I can't remember who said it, but to the person
who said they trusted an MD posted on the wall, I want to reply that my
response to an MD is the opposite. I see some degrees as evidence of the
person's having been brainwashed out of common sense, MD's and Psychology
degrees among them. When I took a class from Elmer Green of the Meninger
Clinic, he said the people who had the most trouble learning biofeedback
were neurosurgeons. They "knew" that the mind couldn't affect the body,
because they'd learned it in school. Others could see the possibility of
mind/body interaction, using their intuition and observation instead of
just relying on what they'd been taught. I trust my homeopath more than
my physician to deal with some problems, because he has effectively helped
me more in many areas.

I think hearing from people on this list and outside it with lots of wisdom
and no degree is helping me to see through the myth of "credentials". I
endorse learning outside the box, and I spend my money and effort following
people whom I believe have some truth in their corner, no matter what kind
of degrees they do or don't have.

The people who are trying to make the diploma decisions for SVS type
schools have a difficult job: trying to connect their school with the
outside world. I think whatever they come up with should be honored, and
also followed up on. How do graduates feel about the degree process 1 or 5
or 10 years later? Do they have suggestions for changes that would have
helped them? Do people who left without degrees feel slighted? There are
lots of ideas and principles that could be argued, but maybe we could have
some experiences to post also?
