Hi all,
Re. the Diploma and evaluation: Do we not, all of us, evaluate
*ourselves* pretty much continually? If a diploma were to reflect a
student's evaluation of *himself* or *herself*, surely that would be
okay: it would merely reflect a natural process going on in every-
one's psyche all the time.
But of course we may not always evaluate ourselves *objectively*.
Indeed in most cases we probably don't. So an *objective* evalua-
tion of ourselves, and written by ourselves, but *also* validated by
some people whose only aim is to *confirm* that our own evalua-
tion of ourselves is about as objective as such an evaluation is ca-
pable of being in this imperfect world, might be an answer to the
"Diploma Question" which would satisfy everyone: those who are
for as well as those who are against a Diploma in a Sudbury school.
Don't you think so?

PS: I *myself* am against Diplomas and Degrees, and as I said, I
proudly sign my name "Ardeshir Mehta, N.D." -- the letters "N.D."
standing for "No Degrees", even though I actually (and unfortu-
nately) do have one.
But I have come to realise from the recent posts on this mailing
list that not everyone is against the Diploma, and that sometimes
even students themselves want one when they graduate. So I'd be
willing to go along with a "Diploma" of the kind I am suggesting
above.
