DSM: Impediments to the Nervous

How have other groups dealt with the 2 impediments to the nervous that Joe
refers to in the “Digest and public school reform” post, those being:

a. the increase in use of testing and “testing mentality” (meaning
“scientific measurement” and quantification of learning
b. the lack of reference point with which to compare SVS student achievement
in order to make an informed parental decision

I understand that referring parents to the SVS material is helpful, but what
other approaches have been successful?
