Hi Cindy,

Even if the notion that not learning something right will imprint the
something "wrong" on young minds for ever, (which to me sounds like sheer
unfounded nonsense), it is still preferable to robbing your four year old
child of the sense of triumph and self reliance that she gets whenever she
figures something on her own. No guidance isn't a vacuum at all it is a
declaration of trust and respect in the child. Teaching skills is teaching
skills which will be learned in time anyway but it happens at a cost of
belief in oneself which does stay with you for a long long time. So go with
your own parenting instincts and forget about the advice that pedagogical
experts give.
