I'd like to add one point to Joseph's history. The KKK was a big
advocate of mandatory public school attendance in the early part of this
century. They wanted to insure the immigrants were taught to be "good
Americans."

I am new to this listserve. I have been lurking for a while. My wife
and I are interested in Sudbury and the philosophies behind the school.
My name is Doug Tuthill--my wife is Deborah Tuthill
