Despite the title, I think the book "The Myth of the ADD Child" is a
reasonably balanced approach to the issue. Armstrong does agree that there
are times stimulants are useful. He also presents 50 other approaches
parents might want to consider. In Chapter 24 (all of the chapters are
quite short), "Consider Alternative Schooling Options", he lists "Free at
Last" in the resource section. "This book tells the story of one
independent alternative school that honors and celebrates learning
differences."

As a family doc, I frequently recommend the book to parents, along with
giving them the Rx for ritalin so their child can function in school.
