>How do children learn foreign languages at SVS?
I wonder why this question is asked,
Is there something inherently different about languages than other
skills that children might learn?
At Sudbury Valley children appear to learn languages much as they
learn anuthing else.
They develop an objective or goal, locate appropriate resources, and
apply themselves. With non-native languages, they might work with a
staff member or older student with skills in the object language; they
might work from tapes or similar aids; they might petition the school
meeting for a contract teacher with skills otherwise unavailable
within the school.
Of course, to begin with, they need to WANT to learn the language.
